Post Christmas Post

Happy belated Christmas/almost New Years!  I hope that you are all enjoying some downtime or at least getting to do the things you love best this holiday season, whatever those things may be.  For us, between an ice storm and a bunch of snow, we’ve been stuck in town away from friends and family.  It’s been a nice change of pace from the usual running around we do being the only out-of-towners of our bunch, so I truly can’t complain!

We spent our first Christmas together just the two of us (this was planned and not due to weather constraints!) and finally got around to completing a 550 piece The Legend of Zelda puzzle we had picked up a few years ago.  While listening to the musings of the McCallister family in Home Alone followed by grunts and utterings of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All the Way (this was my first and last time watching this movie, ugh), it took us most of Christmas night and the next evening to complete it.  We’ve glued a backing onto it and are planning to frame it and hang it up in the Nerd Room at some point in the near future.

For Christmas, I received another 550 piece puzzle from one of my best friends, so that was part of the motivation to get the one we already had finished!  This one looks like it’ll be significantly less complicated than the one we just did since there are way more colours than various shades of brown.  I just adore the stained glass Zelda art that pops up in my life once in a while.  It’s very fitting to the series and I am now going to be on the lookout for these beautiful puzzles on a more regular basis!

After a lull in the awful weather yesterday, we finally got out to do a bit of thrifting.  We picked up a few Xboxes to mod and give away as gifts to friends when we finally see them, but I was lucky enough to chance upon the tail end of a Boxing Day sale in a hock shop.  They had a bunch of 25% off signs on their PS3 and Xbox360 games, but I ran straight for the 70% off PSP basket.  As you may recall, I recently found two PSPs for $5 and $15 respectively, but didn’t have any games to try out.  I dug out two games from that heaping discount bin: Dissidia Final Fantasy and Daxter, recommended by LightningEllen.  I’m still keeping my eye out for Lumines, which was another recommendation from That Geek Erik.  Now that I know my PSPs can read discs, I just need to track down a memory card.  I have a Sony memory card from an old digital camera I own that might work.

Because of the 70% off sale, I only paid $5 for both games!  I tried them both out, and Daxter is certainly looking like it’ll be a fun time.  I was pretty overwhelmed with the tutorial stuff for Dissidia Final Fantasy, but I’ll have to take more time and get to know the game and its controls a little better.

I have an amazing thing I want to post about, but I’m going to save it for another time once it has all sunk in and I’ve had time to process it.  In the meantime though, I hope you’re all staying warm!

Thanks for reading,

-GG

Aw sounds like you had a fun Christmas together! It’s best spent with the ones you love. Those puzzles look awesome. I used to do jigsaw puzzles when I was younger, but I never got to do cool video game-themed ones. I might have to try one out sometime. Nice PSP finds too! I’ve always wanted to play Dissidia. I want to hear how it’s like! Thanks for sharing! And Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year too!

It was honestly really nice to be able to spend time together without the expectation of travel hanging over us. I think I got my first puzzle at EB Games (GameStop equivalent in Canada), and the other might have come from Walmart. I hope you can find some to do. They’re a lot of fun! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well 🙂 I hope you and your wife had a lovely holiday and rest after that awesome trip!

  2. I know I already commented about it on Twitter, bot those are great looking puzzles! The same company makes a really neat Super Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros 3 puzzle.

That was a sweet deal on the PSP games too. Lots of really fun games on that little thing! I wish our thrift stores had more games in stock, but even the ones they do get in are typically broken, scratched, or just the case itself because someone stole the rest (ugh).

I’m glad you and the BF had a great Christmas indoors!

🙂 Thanks again for your kind comments! I will have to look into the Super Mario puzzles because that franchise is pretty damn great too! I especially love much of the artwork from SMB3. I’ll definitely check it out!

I am quite happy with the deal on the PSP games as well. I had gone through that basket earlier in the year and decided to sit on it. This place never, ever has sales, so I was happy to get in on one at the right moment!

And we did have a wonderful Christmas together. We are going to see family today now that the weather has settled down!

  3. Always wanted to try Dissidia, but. Ever had a PSP! If you can’t find Lumines on PSP but really must play it, I think it’s available on XBox Live on 360.

If you are itching to try some Dissidia, I hope you can find a PSP for a great deal sometime! I’ve run into three or four this past year for under $15 at Value Village, and they’re mostly in good shape. And good to know about the XBox Live option for the 360. I have one of those!

Winter is certainly off to a cranky start this year. Nice work conquering those puzzles. They look really good.

Thanks for the shout out. I remember having lots of fun with Daxter. I’m glad you found a copy and I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

  5. That Wind Waker puzzle looks epic! I’m happy you enjoyed your first Christmas (and soon to be New Years) together. I’ve been working more hours since they offer it near the end of the year. So happy tonight is the last night though. Winter hasn’t been too bad yet, but I’m significantly south. January and February are when it really hits us!

We have such a low-key NYE planned, it’s ridiculous. We will watch Happy New Year Charlie Brown and maybe make some popcorn. It should be pretty good!

      • Love it. I used to go out every NYE, but the older I got, the less I liked it. This is the first year I’m actually looking forward to what I’m doing. I do have to get out of bed (took a nap) because two friends are coming over, plus I want to make cookies, but not having to go out is so less stressful.

I agree entirely about going out NYE. I’ve never been much of a “going out” person. I like small get togethers with friends! I hope you had a nice time! I had a fever last night and am still feeling like a sack of crap today. It’s a great start to the year 😛

      • It was so very chill. I want to do the same thing next year hehe. I was more of a going out person in my twenties, but now that I’m old and grumpy, I much prefer staying in. Being around crowds exhausts me. I’m a super introvert despite being able to play an extrovert for the crowd. I require my recharge time.

Ugh, I hope you feel better soon! It was a long day for me, and I’m so happy I’m off work tomorrow to recuperate.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I’m on the mend I think! I hope you enjoy your day off tomorrow!
