I was quietly complaining stating a few posts ago about how slim the pickings have been for retro game collecting in my community. Apparently grumbling frustrations out into the world has pleased the thrifting gods because I was blessed in finding a bountiful harvest of NES games at a local thrift shop. I got a great tip-off from a friend that works there and arrived at the store to see a ton of really great games at reasonable prices (for once!)
Surprisingly, most of the games we bought we didn’t already have. Just when I think I’ve finally found all of what I want for the NES, I’m reminded of games like Double Dragon, Rampage, Popeye, and Kid Icarus. A lot of these games I’ve only had the pleasure of playing on bootleg cartridges or not at all.
The only disappointing thing about this game bunch is that I mistook Tag Team Wrestling for a different game I always found hilarious growing up called M.U.S.C.L.E. Tag Team Match. The game we bought is just a regular old wrestling game where dudes grunt at one another until someone succumbs to too many pummelings. I haven’t played much of the game than than just enough to test its functionality, but I want me some glowing, horned/moustached wrestling dudes that fly across the screen!
I got everything for about $100, which was a nice change from some rage-filled buying experiences of over-priced games I’ve had in the semi-recent past. It also really helped that I had a 30% off coupon that I didn’t hesitate to use, so that also lightened the blow. All the games work and cleaned up nicely, though some of them had a sticky mysterious brownness on them that I don’t even want to think about.
Hopefully this discovery means a change in the tides for retro game hunting. It’d be nice to see more success in the coming summer weeks.
Hope you’re all looking forward to a wonderful weekend.
