I don’t know how I forgot to mention this, but at the same event last weekend I mentioned in my previous post, I picked up a few old PC games! My boyfriend is a PC game fan, and especially a fan of some of the Sim games. A vendor there was selling boxed games for $2 each, so I picked up a few of them. One was a complete Sim City 2000 CD collection which includes a bunch of add-ons for the original game. I also found SimTower, which was my personal favourite Sim game (and truthfully the only one I’ve ever played.) I spent many hours as a kid playing a pirated version of this game and even beat it once! A few years ago when my boyfriend was fiddling around with running Windows 98 in a virtual machine, we installed that game and I got sucked back into it like I was 13 years old again. So, so much fun. Now I have a legitimate copy!
I also found Age of Empires III along with two of its expansion packs. My boyfriend is a fan of real time strategy games and he has played the original of this series. It was a shot in the dark, but for $2 for each box, it was worth it just in case he wanted to play it!
On the topic of PC games, we are currently trying to get my family’s old 386 computer up and running again. When we first turned it on, it told us that the CMOS battery was toast and wouldn’t boot up because of it. So far we’ve replaced the battery to see if it would go through its boot cycle, but now we get some beeps and bloops and end up with a blank screen. I’m so sad that it’s not working, but I’m hoping we can figure it out. There is a strong yearning inside me to have a go at Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Wolfenstein 3D and a bunch of other games from my childhood again. Fingers crossed, please!
Thanks (again!) for reading!

I demand a video of it! Can’t imagine many videos of it exist.

I will talk to my boyfriend and see if he can help me get it set up! He is a wizard with computers and I think we can set it up on the computer I capture from for streaming. I can barely contain my excitement! I can’t wait to see those red angry folks waiting for the elevator again >:)

My favourite was the security guards trying to do a sweep for the bomb. And only using the crummy stairs.

You can’t beat $2 a game! It’s why I’ve been excited these past few weeks with the PSN sale. Four games for $10 last week. I”m not a swap master like you, but I was still pretty stoked hehe, and this week there are even more games to peruse. I may wind up spending even more money 😀

I should probably stop boycotting PS3 and PS4 sometime in the near future to cash in on these deals. I rejected those systems because they didn’t provide any backwards compatibility, and when you’re using the same media between consoles, there’s no excuse for that! But man… $10 for many new(ish) good games seems like such a pipe dream to me at the moment!

The older PS3s do! But yeah the PS4 makes you redownload things, and that’s just irritating. It’s not like they don’t have the capability for backwards compatibility; they’re just greedy.
I need to hop on the PSN this weekend and see what I can pick up. Definitely want Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story.

Hope you get your old computer up and running! Sim Tower was so much fun. I have Age of Empires 2 and played a bit of the original Starcraft. Other than that I’m not a huge fan of RTS since I’m horrible at them, lol

I got to play through a large portion of SimTower last night! We got it running on a virtual machine in Windows 7, so it was just like playing it from a Windows 98 computer!!! It’s hard though. So, so hard. I got stuck at a round 7500 people before the sleepiness settled in.

Wow, Simcity was (is) one of my favourite games and I still play it! Regarding your PC I hope you’ll be able to fix it soon and play again Wolfenstein 3D. As soon as I complete my long play with Europa Universalis IV and Catacomb 3D I will definitely move (for the n-th time) to Wolf again!!!

It’s awesome that you still play Sim City! I’ve never tried it out, but I think I really should at some point. I watched my boyfriend fiddle with the one for SNES via emulator and it’s a bit of a nightmare. PC all the way for that!
I hope you have a good time with Wolfenstein 3D when you get there. My old PC didn’t have full sound capability, so whenever I see playthroughs of the game online I’m always blown away by the sound effects that I never heard growing up! I can say that I never heard Commander Keen music until recently either for the same reasons, but I played that game constantly growing up with only sound effects! So funny!

I remember my first play of Wolf with my first PC, a 286, and I dodn’t have sound in it (I bought the soundblaster later…) so I had the same problem. I look forward to find a good version with sound now. Regarding SC2000 I never tried it on SNES but I guess the PC version will be infinitely better…you have to try it!!!
